NeuroEdge® Coaching is a unique combination of personalized coaching and NeurOptimal® neurofeedback.

We specialize in working with high-performing teens, ‘tweens, and young adults, focusing on boosting self-confidence, helping them to develop emotional intelligence, addressing personal challenges, and discovering and expanding upon their strengths.

NeuroEdge® Coaching uses a unique combination of personalized coaching and NeurOptimal neurofeedback, which gently challenges the brain to develop the neural pathways it needs for better resilience and performance. This “brain training” helps the brain operate at its most optimal state, increasing cognitive flexibility, speed, and accuracy. While clients work through exercises and talk to their coach in private sessions, neurofeedback works with the brain in the background, reinforcing what’s being learned for the long-term.

Clients have reported various improvements as a result of NeuroEdge® Coaching, including an improved ability to focus, improved hand-eye coordination and balance, remediation of bad habits, a better ability to stay "in the zone" or in "flow," lowered tension when faced with pressure to perform, and improved concentration, to name only a few.

What happens in a NeuroEdge® Coaching session?

A NeuroEdge® Coaching Session lasts about 50 minutes.

During a session, we will set an agenda together, based on the client’s unique needs and goals. Typical sessions may include:

  • Discussing how to best manage challenges like homework or schedules

  • Talking about what’s weighing heavily on the mind, such as relationships with family or friends, and working through solutions

  • Practicing visualization exercises to help with planning for the future

At the start of each session, small sensors are placed on the client’s head, which read their brain waves into the neurofeedback software. The client is free to talk with their coach and work on their goals while the software is running quietly in the background, providing feedback in the form of music played softly through a speaker nearby.

Brainwaves that go "off-course" create slight interruptions in the music, which signal the brain to self-correct into a more natural, relaxed, and effective pattern. Unproductive patterns – such as anxiety or worry, stress, or difficulty processing information – are reorganized into patterns that are more efficient, calm, and centered.

When brainwave patterns are more efficient, the mind is able to be more flexible, creative, and resilient.

Is NeuroEdge® coaching appropriate for young children?

Yes! Children respond very well to neurofeedback, and in some cases it can be an alternative choice to medication. Neurofeedback is painless, drug-free, and non-invasive, and there are no negative side-effects. Here is more information.

In a NeuroEdge® session with young children, we will play games and talk while the neurofeedback is running in the background, or we may watch a video together if the child is especially young or has difficulty sitting through the session. Coaching may look more like play as we help your child develop more confidence, manage their anxiety, or address other emotions or behavior. Contact us to discuss your child and their unique needs.

After working with us, parents have reported that their children have improved in these areas:

  • being ready in time for school

  • having homework and books in order

  • staying asleep throughout the night

  • understanding what is said

  • response to challenges/irritabilities

  • anger outbursts

  • making eye contact

  • fluid conversation

  • maintaining continuous attention

  • hyperactivity

  • disruptive behavior while eating

  • trouble with change

  • daydreaming vs ability to focus when needed

How do I know if it’s working?

By combining neurofeedback and coaching, NeuroEdge® Coaching provides a two-pronged approach: neurofeedback helps train the brain to better handle emotions like stress, while coaching helps the mind to better manage it.

94% of NeuroEdge® Coaching clients return after the first session. Most clients complete 10-20 sessions.

After the first session, clients typically report feeling refreshed, relaxed, and in a higher state of mental alertness and flow. Many sleep better and more deeply that very night!

Is neurofeedback safe?

20170707 Neuroptimal Stock 101.jpg

Neurofeedback is:

  • effective

  • non-invasive

  • drug-free

  • painless

  • free of side effects

  • long-lasting with a sufficient amount of brain training

Unlike performance-enhancing drugs or medications, the results from neurofeedback sessions are stable over time. It's like learning to ride a bike — once your brain has developed the pathways that correctly interpret and manage all the balance signals concerning the movement on the bike, those pathways are there for good.

NeurOptimal is the cutting edge in neurofeedback technology and the only system we endorse at NeuroEdge® Coaching. Learn more about neurofeedback.

Who else can benefit from NeuroEdge® Coaching?

Although focusing predominantly on teenagers, kids, and young adults, our clients have included executives, engineers, managers, professional athletes, artists, and veterans. Our clients come from all over the DC Metro area.

Does neurofeedback treat learning disabilities?

Neurofeedback is perhaps best known for its help with symptoms of ADD/ADHD, as well as learning disabilities and anxieties/phobias. In many cases, symptoms are resolved to such an extent that ADD/ADHD medications can be dramatically reduced or eliminated. The American Pediatric Association endorsed neurofeedback to be “as effective as medication” for ADHD.

Neurofeedback is a useful intervention for a range of brain-related conditions:

  • Migraine / Headaches

  • Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD)

  • Parkinson's / Alzheimer's / Dementia

  • Phobias

  • Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD)

  • Speech Disorders / Stuttering / Childhood-Onset Fluency Disorder

  • Tourette’s Syndrome

  • Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) / Closed-Head Injury / Stroke

  • ADD / ADHD

  • Addiction

  • Age-Related Cognitive Decline

  • Aggression

  • Anxiety Disorders

  • Autism Spectrum Disorders

  • Dyslexia / Aphasia

  • Epilepsy

  • Insomnia / Sleep Disorders

  • Learning Disabilities

Can I pay with health insurance?

While coaching can be therapeutic, it is not therapy and is not covered by medical insurance. Similarly, NeurOptimal® neurofeedback is a training, not a treatment, and does not require diagnosis or treatment planning. As such, NeuroEdge® Coaching is not covered by health insurance. Please contact us for details about pricing and your needs.
